The Sun is the largest star in our solar system, giving it its name. It brings light and warmth. It keeps away darkness and gives life. Without its beneign influence no life would be possible on Earth. The Mayans were familiar with the Sun and its mysteries,vowing it an unbounded reverence. They had even succeeded to determine its diameter (1,392.000 kilomètres) and masse (109 times the size of the Earth) !
This bright star was divinised by many ethnies. And had many names: Osiris and Râ by the Egyptians ; Baal by the Chaldeans ; Tammuz or Adonis by the Phenicians and the Syrians ; Mithra by the Perses ; Phoebus and Apollon by the Greeks and the Romans ; Pachacamac, meaning "father" by the Incas, and the Peruvians, etc.
