The Mayans

Nobody knows exactly where the Mayan civilization came from.

What is known though, is that this brilliant and feared civilization appeared between the 4th and the 3rd millennium BC, developed in Mexico and all through Central America, influencing strongly the Incas and the South American Aztecs. The highest point of their civilization is believed to have been between the 6th and the 9th century and vanished with the arrival of the conquistadors at the16th century.

This civilization was one of the most advanced at that epochs : the Mayas had the knowledge in various domains like; chemistry, mathematics, physics and many other sciences. Remains of their remarkable architecture are still visible today with ceremonial monument, artifacts with extraordinarily detailed decorations, and of course the pyramids, theirs palaces and their observatories, all of them constructed without any metal tool, to our actual knowledge anyway.

They had also incredible knowledge in agronomy. Skilled farmers, the Mayas cleared the tropical forest and constructed immense underground water reserves, for the collecting of rainwater, in places where no surface water existed. They made jewels, fabrics, and pottery, and also roads through the jungle and the swamp, creating a network for exchange with other far away people. They were also the first Pre Colombians to elaborate a written language, composed by glyphes, meaning symbol's.
