Very much into the arts of magic, mastering numerology and astrology, a science like astronomy had a very high ranking for them. Their extremely skilled scribes created thousands of codex's, fig bark and stag skins were utilized for that; it was on supports as these that they wrote down important astronomical observations. With these charts they planned and logged the movements of the heavenly bodies.
They also had observatories and other astronomic objects as for example sun dials. Their precise knowledge concerning the exact dates for the solstices and equinox's made them able to determine the favorable periods for the celebration of their divers rituals (planting of maize, politic or commercial alliances, marriages, ceremonies to attract chance and fortune, etc.).
