The Mayan emperors were considered to be the direct descendants of the Sun God and as such, they were considered to be divinities. At the summit of the Mayan society, detaining supreme power, they were the intermediaries between the gods and mankind, guaranteeing the cosmic order.
A sort of Mayan Bible - the sacred Book of Popol Vuh - relates this cult of the Sun God, often depicted as wearing a golden human faced, mask, surrounded by sun rays. In each administration center, the Mayan emperors generally, built solar temples served by priests and also a palace. There were also other sun temples: the "Ushnu" pyramids on plazas where some solar rites were performed.
