Acquired luck

The psychology of luck

If you are not satisfied with the luck that destiny meted out to you at birth, remember that you cannot afford to waste the smallest piece of this “meagre portion”. Better still, remember that it is not difficult to increase it significantly, so that you build up a store of luck that is greater than the luck enjoyed by certain people who, although “born lucky”, deplete their precious reserve or, even worse, don’t use it at all through laziness or ignorance. Take a good look around you and you will see happy people, surrounded by a happy family, with no apparent financial problems and living a comfortable life. Ask them if they’ve inherited a fortune, if they’ve won the lottery, if they’ve had a particularly successful career. Most will tell the same story as yours, a simple story composed of lots of small pieces of happiness. They won’t mention their problems, although they undoubtedly have some, just as you do. Other people, however, will only talk about their problems, forgetting that they have a much higher income than yours. Finally, remember that there are also people who, although beautiful, rich and famous, are continually depressed, take drugs and commit suicide.

From this, you can deduce that:

• what makes some people happy doesn’t necessarily make everyone happy.

• wishing for what you haven’t got, or envying other people for what they have, is a waste of time and can make you miss out on your own happiness.

• happiness and luck are small events that occur naturally in your life, adding to its interest and serenity.

• like happiness, luck is primarily a state of mind. Remember that adopting the right approach to life is your most important asset when it comes to happiness and luck.

Remember that:

• you often create the luck you have by thinking and acting in a positive manner.

• behind every success, there is often a great deal of hard work, effort and patience. There is also a person who thinks and acts in a positive way: confidently, rationally and methodically. It is up to you to be one of these people whose destiny you envy to a greater or lesser degree. To do this, you don’t need to win the jackpot on the lottery, inherit a fortune from a rich uncle in America, be a film star or run a multinational company.

Just remember:

• to feel comfortable with yourself

• to act confidently

• not to attribute too much importance to your failures

• not to waste time pleading poverty but do what you have to in order to be in the right place at the right time. Believe me, this is not so much a question of luck as industrious ingenuity!
